A Strange 5,000-Year-Old Submerged City Was Discovered In Southern Greece

In southern Greece, what looks to be the world’s oldest submerged city has recently been uncovered. It is so old that it is thought to be the setting for the ancient Greek epic poem “Iliad.”

It is stated to date back to 2,800 BC, which corresponds to the date that the research team discovered the submerged city.

The crew was able to confirm that it is over 5,000 years old because fifteen of the buildings here plainly displayed indicators of being that old to begin with.

The trip was directed by John Henderson on behalf of the University of Nottingham, and owing to him, we now have a virtual reproduction of the city in its prime that we can observe.
